ENTERTAINMENT
Exciting daytime and entertaining nightlife is literally what Phuket is about. We all enjoy a day at beach with a wide range of sport activities, and we have fun and never feel enough of them. But when night falls and moon rises, a different Phuket emerges with a full swing of lively entertainment filled beer bars, go-go bars, discos, karaoke clubs, nightclubs, Thai girls and ladyboys, beautiful shows, and you name it. Phuket extremely offers to all a variety of parties and tastes and the best nightlife scene.
Nightlife in Phuket
Most of the after-hour venues also pump up your adrenaline with the mixture of Western, traditional and contemporary Thai music – jazz, pop, rock, country and so on. But don’t be surprised when entering Thai style nightclubs, there is no common dance floor, and people just squeeze in around their table and dance next to one another. Some venues also offer live bands. At the end of the night, Phuket nightlife is much geared toward your need and suits your tastes. It is such a great combination of the paradise’s charm and great atmosphere. So welcome to a real paradise of all! Everything happens for a good reason of vivid life.
Phuket nightlife becomes one of the main attractions in the island. You head down to Phuket and stay over night for a few days or weeks or more, this scene is a must not to be missed, and it is nearly everywhere in Phuket, especially most tourist areas. From the wild action on Soi Bangla in Patong Beach where some of the most beautiful women you’ll ever see are men to the jammed outside bars in Karon Beach where the Thai girls stand outside their respective bars welcoming visitors to sit down for a cold drink to the beach shack shanty bars in Kata Beach where one can enjoy a quiet drink and a pleasant conversation with the local staff to the dark discos of Phuket town, there is plenty of nightlife action in Phuket. But remember this, if you party in local Thai bars and clubs, best go with English speaking Thais as not all locals are bilingual.
Bangla Road (Patong beach)
There are few things in this world to prepare you for an after-dark stroll down Patong's Bangla Road. However, a sense of humour and an open mind are prerequisites if you're looking to have some fun. In fact, there's only one undeniable and obvious fact about Bangla – it's nothing like home. With its ladyboys, exotic girls, enchanted westerners (mostly male) and enough extraverts to fill a Disney cast of thousands, shopping or sipping on a beer at Bangla Road at night is a definite 'Dear Diary' moment.
Bangla Road is located in the heart of Patong's nightlife scene. Bangla Road or "Soi Bangla" hosts by far more soi's than any other street in Patong. Soi Easy, Soi Gonzo, Soi Crocodile, Soi Eric, Soi Sea Dragon, Soi Tiger, and Soi Lion. Bar Hours are from around 10:00 AM till 2:00 AM. You will also find plenty of smaller pubs and dinning spots on Bangla. There is plenty of shopping on Bangla as well, from tailored suites, clothing, souvenirs, and even a full a shopping plaza.
Phuket FantaSea Show (Kamala beach)
It's wacky but fun and very professionally done. Trapeze artists, elephants on stage and pyrotechnics combine in a Las Vegas-style show. You'll see nothing else like it anywhere on the planet. Combining Thai traditional myths with humour, fantasy and a loose plotline that keeps getting more and more amusing, FantaSea's extravaganza is a highly entertaining and riveting show that deserves to be top of our Top Ten Must See and Do in Phuket list.
Splash Jungle WaterPark (Maikhaow beach)
Splash Jungle is a thriving and safe destination for everyone to enjoy, from toe dipping kids pools to exhilarating rides like Boomerango! And where better to have a day of adventure than at the edge of Phukets jungle overlooking the pristine and untouched beauty of Mai Khoo Beach, the perfect scene to get wet!
The little ones can splash, play and slide in their own kids pool, whilst Mom and Dad can enjoy a drink at the swim-up Splash Bar or escape into the Spa Village for a sauna.
There is something for everyone at Splash Jungle making it a great day out with an unforgettable experience for the whole family. If you seek adventure and have a love for tropical Islands, then Splash Jungle will be your sanctuary of fun. So enjoy and splash out!
Phuket Simon Cabaret (Patong beach)
Simon Cabaret - probably the biggest "transvestite" cabaret show to be found locally. This show features a spectacular musical floor show performed by the world famous "ladyboys" of Simon Cabaret. See for yourself - guys, can you tell the difference? And ladies - wouldn't you just die for a figure like that? Fabulous costumes, glitzy and fun.
Phuket Street Market
Patong Beach Road - This is the main shopping street catering to tourists. All along the beach road south of Soi Bangla, and down a few of the small alleys, are stalls and shops selling cheap designer goods, beach wear, watches, some electrical goods and souvenir items. Quite a few stalls and shops are open during the day but the street really comes alive in the evenings.
Chao Fah Variety (opposite Wat Nakha, Phuket City) - Also known as the new weekend market, this market recently sprung up on the outskirts of Phuket City, just off Chaofa West road opposite Wat Nakha (Nakha Temple). This is now Phuket's largest weekend market, having taken over from the now defunct Chatuchak Phuket market. There is a wide range of items on sale, including clothes, accessories, pets, home decorations and plenty of delicious food.
Bangla Road (Patong) - Pretty much a continuation of the stalls and shops along the beach road, interspersed with beer bars. As with the bars, the shopping is best in the evenings. (See Patong shopping).
Patak Road (Karon Circle Area) - Similar to Patong Beach Road, but much fewer stalls and shops by comparison.
Taina Road (Kata) - Quite a few shops and stalls beginning at the intersection near Dino Park and continuing down Taina Road. Also some more shopping at the southern end of Kata, before the road goes over the hill to Kata Noi.
Phuket Square (Tilok Uthit 2 Rd, Phuket City ) - Another new market near the Royal Phuket City Hotel. Features clothes, decorative items, furniture and household goods. Open 'til late.
Cherng Talay market (near Cherng Talay police station) - This market, which is open on Sundays and Wednesdays, is a much smaller version of the weekend market in Phuket City.
Muay Thai (Patong beach - Rawai )
Rapidly gaining popularity all over the world, Muay Thai is an electrifying spectacle to watch. Visit Saphan Hin Stadium in Phuket City to see regular matches with well-trained martial arts experts. Or try Patong Beach, where you can also see the skill and dexterity of these super-fit fighters.
Tradition and courtesy are at the heart of this dangerous contact sport and a good Muay Thai participant is ultra-disciplined in spirit as well as body. Join the spectators and feel the rush. to see regular matches with well-trained martial arts experts.
Phuket Old Town (Phuket Town)
Sino-Portuguese splendours and funky shops in the most unlikely places will surprise and delight you in the heart of Phuket's sleepy provincial capital. Phuket town offers much more than you think with some excellent restaurants and local sights.
The unique blend of colonial and Chinese architecture along with a tangible quaintness makes for a fascinating and unforgettable afternoon spent sauntering around Phuket's Old Town. Expect the unexpected and don't forget your camera.
Phuket Vegetarian Festivals and other Events (Phuket Town)
Whether they're held to honour a religious belief or just for fun, the festivals of Phuket are exciting, sometimes bizarre spectacles – and they're certainly never bland. The Vegetarian Festival draws people from all over the world. It's colourful, it's deafening and sometimes fascinatingly gruesome. Vegetables gruesome? Come and see for yourself… Phuket's Gay Festival falls at the same time as Thailand's Songkran Water Festival and both are fun-filled, full-on parties that celebrate life's exuberance in a most decidedly Thai way.
